With an increasing number of our daily financial transactions being conducted online, fraud prevention is a growing concern. The temporary storage of credit card details and the use of unencrypted sales portals have led to a rise in the number of online payment scams, botched transactions and outright fraud.
A new website from credit card provider and online transaction specialist Visa aims to educate consumers on “Cyber Security Awareness”, which is being touted this month to consumers worldwide.
The site provides helpful tips and hints as well as practical information that can help online shoppers and banking customers to avoid becoming unwitting fraud victims.
While the program is ostensibly directed at Visa cardholders, thereby saving Visa money on refunding fraudulent payments, the information provided on the free website is general enough to be helpful to all online shoppers and internet buyers. Topics covered include secure web browsing packages and current domain hosting concerns with online transactions.
Geared primarily toward the US market, the site is available in both English and Spanish, reminding users of Visa’s terms and conditions, guidelines for online shopping and payment risk alerts.
