In commemorating the one year anniversary of Stephen Gately’s untimely death, Irish pop group Boyzone has launched a website dedicated to the deceased band member. The web hosting platform encourages fans, family and friends to upload pictures and share stories and memories of Gately in a special gallery section of the site.
The launch follows hard on the heels of the band’s recent and most commercially successful album, Brother, which was dedicated to Gately’s memory on its release in March of this year. The album features the last recordings made by Gately before he died of a pulmonary edema last October while vacationing in Mallorca, Spain. The first single, Gave it All Away, was written by Lebanese-American pop star and recorded by Gately in the months leading up to his death, reaching #9 and #1 on the UK and Irish singles charts, respectively.
Surviving Boyzone members Mikey Graham, Shane Lynch, Keith Duffy and Ronan Keating came up with the idea as further manifestation of an ongoing tribute to Gately. The band recognizes the free website important portal for his fans to share memories and deal with the pain caused by the singer’s tragic death.
