Controversial Australian Education Site Updated

Following complaints and controversy over geographic profiling, an Australian government website responsible for domain hosting information on school and student results online has been revamped.

The site, which usually offers information and learning resources to parents, teachers and local governments, was taken down after it was found that “league tables” were being made from the data on the site.

The newly elected Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard suggested that the new version of the site would also host financial and budget details for various schools, in addition to providing heightened security and copyright protection for existing content.

With more than 2.5 million visitors, MySchool has been viewed as a great success by public officials, in that it provides “an important set of new data for Australian parents, for teachers and for the Australian community.” The prime minister did not give comment on the potential dangers and kidnapping risks associated with free hosting sensitive financial data on a per school basis.
