Transportation Giant Thalys Launches Carpool Website

Earlier this week European transportation giant Thalys launched a web-based platform to encourage carpooling to and from a variety of destinations, enabling Thalys train users to make their first and last connections in the most eco-friendly manner available.

While online hitchhiking sites like mitfahrgelegenheit.de and rideshare.co.uk have long been popular with alternative-method travellers, Thalys’ efforts are the first to place the idea of carpooling, hitchhiking or ridesharing in an acceptable corporate context. Company executive Eric Cooremans explained that “by promoting and webhosting complementary train and car services, Thalys offers an effective response to clients who want to travel fast, easy and environmentally responsible.”

The website is located at carpool-thalys.com and has a function for drivers as well as riders to find appropriate transport for both departure and arrival legs of their journey, with Thalys providing free hosting of all necessary information, regulations and connection details.
